The British School of Archaeology in Iraq (now renamed the British Institute for the Study of Iraq) is the only body in Britain devoted solely to research into the ancient civilizations and languages of Mesopotamia. It is currently devoting its resources to assisting in the rebuilding of Iraq’s heritage.

The aftermath of the second Gulf war has left monuments, sites, libraries and museums in ruins. Many of their priceless contents have been looted, smashed, or burnt.
